One of my personal favorite radio talk show personalities tells his audience Monday through Friday: “Don’t let your heart be troubled”. You might know who he is, you might not, and regardless of your political position, it is a saying that all Americans can embrace when we are feeling down in the dumps. He is basically saying that you and I still live in the most prosperous, wealthiest, innovative country man has ever known. He goes on to say that while we sometimes face extremely tough times, we all posses the God given talent to pull ourselves back up and reinvent ourselves. It is we the individual that with hard work, can achieve the American Dream. It is this state of mind that has allowed America to become the greatest country in the shortest amount of time.

There is truly a lot of crap going on right now and for the foreseeable future. If you listen to radio at all during the day there are endless advertisements talking about going into business for yourself from home. They are so numerous because there are a lot of people who are out of work. There are millions of people whose mortgages will reset to much higher interest rates in the coming years who won’t be able to afford their home under their current incomes. We have myriad financial costs facing our country that our current generation must contend with. On top of all this our brothers and sisters are fighting two wars.

While all of these issues are unfortunate, it is precisely these issues that are driving millions of Americans to listen to these advertisements and dive into the “HOME BASED BUSINESS”.  The people that are in charge of these businesses recognize a need. And in my opinion this need is only going to grow and not just here in the United States.

Instead of feeling down in the dumps and thinking all is lost, take charge now. There is an ever growing market of folks out there that are desperate to start over, reinvent themselves, pull themselves back up and take control of their lives. With hard work YOU can become the person that these people will want to work with.

My first experience with network marketing was way back in high school. I had listened to a get together at my folks place about a product called Nuskin. My Mom and Dad were jumping into a new business venture with one of their friends and everyone was going to make a lot of money in a very quick amount of time. I remember listening to this charismatic individual and thinking that even I could do this.

Well my folks attempt at super success didn’t last long and I never heard about the charismatic leader again. Over the years I dabbled in other network companies  and the psychology was always the same. Start strong and finish, well quit would be the right word. I remember telling myself that I would never ever enter into another network marketing company again. I simply felt I did not personally have what it took to be that successfull charismatic leader that stood in front of my folks many moons ago.

Well….never say never. My business partner and now mentor told me to read a book called Magnetic Sponsoring. After reading Magnetic Sponsoring I knew why in the past I quit my other networking companies. The old formula was a formula for disaster. I couldn’t possibly start to be successful in network marketing until I partnered up with successful people that could show me the way.

While Magnetic Sponsoring became the successful business model to build a successful network, it was the people I became associated with that has really got me excited. My mentor and his team of like minded marketers stay in constant contact with each other and disseminate incredibly useful marketing tactics that can be applied the day I hear about them.

One thing I have taken away from their teachings is that online marketing is an ever changing dynamic world. There are so many techniques being used to market products and ideas that a person navigating this world on their own would be like Tom Hanks and Wilson on a homade raft in the Pacific Ocean. You have to have a game plan and proven techniques that are currently being used by the successful marketers online to see quality results.

Being associated with my group of marketers and applying their techniques decreases my learning curve dramatically and is a source of motivation. We hold weekly live webinars where people can ask questions. We test marketing ideas and share them with our group.

I would like to talk about a simple and inexpensive way to generate leads using one of the oldest strategies around and that’s the classifieds, and not the ones in your local newspapers. These are online classified sites that employ the same concept as the newspaper variety but communicate to a much larger market. This marketing strategy is perfect for anyone that is new to network marketing and is looking for an inexpensive way to generate leads.

Most of these sites offer free classified ads placed by you. But for as low as $10 dollars a year these sites will allow maximum exposure, the ability to insert images, an auto renewal option, and give you the ability to have a live link in your ad that can direct a reader right to your capture page.

Once you create a login its basically a three step process and you will be publishing quality adds online. The first step is to select a category. Most of these sites will have a business category or home business category to choose from as well as sub categories to target certain types of people. You will want to experiment with a variety of categories and subcategories to see which groups yield the most feedback. You can next select a price qualifier which simply narrows down your prospect pool. Its your choice. Lets say you are selling a product that is $25 dollars and you post this in the price qualifier. Potential buyers that click on your add are more qualified because they are obviously willing to pay $25 dollars. Next is to simply publish your ad. You can dress your ad up with an image or banner as well.

I personally recommend  USFreeads. This site has been around a while and is easy to use. You can also google free classifieds and have your choice of many sites. It must be stressed that this technique takes a lot of ads to generate results. We are talking 100’s if not thousands of ads to be successful at this. But if you are on a budget or just getting started this is a great way to build momentum, leads, and ultimately business partners.

I don’t know about you, but when my ears first heard the words “network marketing”, I know for a fact that I did not grasp what I just heard. You see, when I was first approached by someone offering me a business opportunity, and the success of that opportunity ultimately depended on me being able to market myself positively in the eyes of a buyer and not necessarily the product selling itself on it’s merits alone, I began to realize that I did not have a clue what “network marketing” truly was.

Think about it, your buddy calls you up and says “Nathan, I have this great new cutting edge diet pill that everyone is going to want. You would be great at it. Lets get started today.” Your thinking to yourself how great this is going to be. I mean your day job as a teacher or a nurse or whatever line of work your in hasn’t nessecarily prepared you for a job like this, but in the back of your mind the product will do all the work and you can sit back and rake in the profits right?

Wrong! In fact, 97% of individuals that get into a network marketing company fail. They fail not because the products they are selling aren’t good, in fact most products sold through network marketing are extremely good products that the consumer can’t get at the store shelf.  They fail becuase they have not been trained properly on how to market themselves to the masses. That’s right, not marketing your product to the masses, but marketing yourself to the masses. And when I say masses, I’m talking about the largest market in the world, and that is the internet.

Wow, marketing myself to the masses on the internet. Sounds at first exciting, maybe even adventeruous. To me when I first realized what it would take to be successful at this, I felt intimidated.  I did not have a clue how to get started marketing myself to the masses on the internet.  When you go to Ebay and are browsing products you might want to purchase, no one on Ebay is selling themselves, and if they are its not the kind of self marketing your into. Are you starting to get my drift?

I would venture to say that you are pretty darn good at what you do at your day job. I mean you have had formal training, a step by step process has given you the skillsets needed to make a good salary. Someone has mentored you or passed along all their secrets that they have learned over the years. You have been groomed to be successful and the only thing that will prevent you from being successful is you. But you are a hard worker that is motivated and willing to learn. Ok everyone, of course building your lead list online is going to be your main focus. But you can’t ignore the other side of building your business which is your offline approach. Remember, all the experts and leaders agree that the most powerful connection with a potential lead or distributor is the personal one. And lets face it, don’t we all want to speak to all of our prospects? When you meet face to face with someone, they have the best opportunity to get to know you. The second strongest connection is made through direct communication over the phone. Unlike chat or email, a voice holds serious personality. It offers the listener a chance to “feel” the type of person you are. As you can imagine your inflection, tone, and presence is huge!
By gaining a little information about your prospect, you can direct a conversation to your advantage whether you are speaking face to face or over the phone. In the example below we will look at three different “categories” of people that you will speak to, and in turn will dictate your approach in introducing yourself and your opportunity.

Person A: This is someone that you admire and look up to as a leader. You would ask this person for advice about financial decisions or their opinion about a person you are serious with. Usually this is someone you know fairly well.

Person B: This is someone that you consider your equal. You value their opinion and you in turn have no problem giving them yours. A fellow coworker or friend or neighbor.

Person C: This is someone that is struggling in their business, or, are openly telling you about how they are unhappy with their current job.

Lets look at Person A . The proper approach to introduce your business to them would be, “I recently became involved in a business opportunity.  Can you take a look at it and let me know what you think? I really value your advice when it comes to financial decisions.” Notice how at no point in the conversation you were trying to “sell” them on your business. Person A would love to help you out and give their opinion. You just exposed them to your business.
In the case of Person B, the proper approach would go as follows. “Hey Tim, you know how we are always talking about starting our own business and making some real money? Well I have found an opportunity that you and I can be partners in and start growing a business we can call our own. Lets get together over lunch and I can show it to you.” Again at no time were you trying to sell this person. By including them in your “team”, they will be inclined to look at what you have to offer.
The proper approach to Person C is, “Hi Mary, not that long ago I was in your shoes. I became involved in  this business and I am having incredible financial results. I would love to work with you and show you how to get the same results I am getting. Let me buy you a cup of coffee and show you what I’m doing.” Because you have success in Person C’s eyes, which is what they desire, they will instinctively want to know what you can offer them. You have the luxury of being more aggressive with your presentation.
If you can glean enough information about your prospects and are able to categorize them into these three types of people, you will become successful in converting leads into business partners.
